Therapeutic ApproachChoosing to begin therapy can be a life changing experience, and it is important to find a therapist you feel a connection with and who is qualified to address your needs and concerns throughout the therapeutic process. For that reason, I offer a 30-minute free phone or in person office consultation. This provides you to share your concerns, and issues you are seeking to address in therapy. The consultation process allows me an opportunity to discuss my thoughts of how I can best help you and what therapeutic approaches and methods I would utilize. It also gives you a chance to ask me any questions you may have for me. As a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and Registered California Addiction Specialist, I have experience helping others to understand and utilize their strengths as a foundation to help create the life they desire. I am not the kind of therapist that will sit back and nod my head and ask, "But how does that make you feel?" I am active and engaged as we embark on a journey together, exploring the issues you feel are important in your life that may be preventing you from realizing your true potential. I will help you to gain insight into yourself by gently confronting and challenging you when I see discrepancies in your life that are causing you conflict. Psychotherapy is not a magical cure; walking this path will take time, energy and focus, yet the rewards can be great. People seek therapy for many reasons. For some, the goals for therapy are more about resolving old hurts and trauma. For others it may be improving relationships and communication skills with a spouse, a partner or with a family member. Others may be seeking relief from their anxiety, depression, or an improved sense of well-being, self-worth, an increased awareness of the true self, and an overall sense of feeling more grounded and stable. Some may be looking for help due to their struggle with substance abuse or dependence. Substance abuse, dependence or other obsessive and compulsive behavioral issues are rarely a stand-alone problem, which is why I look for the underlying cause because usually a person is self-medicating with other issues, such as depression, anxiety, trauma and loss and grief. Many have lost their sense of identity, and positive self-worth. In order to effectively treat the issues of abuse or addiction, the underlying co-occurring issues need to be addressed as well. In all cases, my aim is to increase your ability to become the whole person that you were meant to be. I will help you to learn new coping skills to effectively navigate and manage the challenges that you encounter in life. My clients appreciate my process and style, and are often surprised how quickly they begin to feel better about themselves and the world around them. The relationship between client and therapist is the key to successful and rewarding therapy. My job is to ensure that you feel comfortable, safe and understood as we begin the process of uncovering the roadblocks you are encountering that prevent you from living a truly happy and rewarding life. Working with me you will find a safe place to talk about what is most important to you. With a blend of wisdom, understanding, intuition and humor, we work together—as a team—to help you achieve your goals. My practice provides psychotherapy for Individuals, Couples, Families and Adolescents.
