For some clients goals may be to increase positive feelings, such as compassion for one self, improve self-esteem or to inspire change and improve quality of life. I have clients that are considering making a career change and need someone who has personal experience in making career changes and has professional coaching experience. Others come to therapy to work on relationships – either their relationship to themselves or to others. Many others may be working toward reducing substances they are using i.e. alcohol or other drugs or stop all together. It is important for us to decide if my style is a good fit for your needs. I teach my clients to learn new skills for handling difficult situations, making healthy decisions, and reaching their goals. Many find they enjoy the therapeutic journey of becoming more self-aware. Some people seek ongoing therapy for continual self-growth. Issues that are causing distress and interfering with daily life can result in negative thoughts, feelings, behaviors and physical symptoms such as pain, fatigue and stress. Many of my clients often report feeling depressed, or anxious and overwhelmed, creating feelings of hopelessness about their life and their future. Their issues may cause them to lose focus at work or school. They also may be experiencing issues related to substance abuse or addiction. I help people make lifestyle changes that will improve their situation. It is important to help my clients identify the underlying causes of their symptoms and provide strategies for changing unwanted thoughts and behaviors. I do not subscribe to the one size fits all theory – what may work for one person may not work for another.
